Lou Reed: a settembre nuova raccolta di brani pre-Velvet Underground

Si chiama “Why Don’t You Smile Now: Lou Reed at Pickwick Records 1964-65″, la nuova raccolta di brani di Lou Reed, la cui uscita è prevista per il prossimo 27 settembre. Il nuovo album sarà disponibile in formato 2xLP, CD e merchandise a partire dal 4 ottobre, mentre il rilascio digitale è previsto per il 27 settembre. Nel frattempo, è già possibile ascoltare il singolo digitale “The Ostrich“, disponibile su tutte le piattaforme.

Un disco sul pre-Velvet Underground

I Velvet Underground si formano durante il 1965 e, già nel 1966, saranno sotto la supervisione artistica di Andy Warhol. Tuttavia, tra il 1964 e lo stesso 1965, un giovane Lou Reed aveva già alle spalle una miriade di canzoni scritte e numerose incisioni per la sua casa discografica di allora: la Pickwick Records di New York. È proprio in questo periodo che, come membro dei The Primitives—un gruppo fittizio creato ad hoc per promuovere il singolo “The Ostrich”—Lou Reed incontra e collabora per la prima volta con John Cale, futuro compagno di avventura nei Velvet Underground.
