Katy Perry: il pop troppo sbiadito del singolo “Smile”

Sembra proseguire la discesa artistica di Katy Perry. Dopo un album totalmente da dimenticare, il terribile “Witness“, pubblicato nel 2017, la cantante californiana ha anticipato il nuovo progetto discografico con la bellezza di sette singoli, tra cui spicca la title track, “Smile“, rilasciata il 10 lugio 2020 per Capitol Records.

Il sesto capitolo della cantante di Santa Barbara vede come punto di partenza la depressione scaturita dalla rottura temporanea con il compagno Orlando Bloom; il brano in questione, chiave di tutto il disco, è stato dunque scritto nel momento più buio, quello più tenebroso, e vuole essere l’inizio della risalita verso la luce.

Basato su un campionamento di “Jamboree” dei Naughy By Nature datato 1999 l’artista ci porta nuovamente nell’universo a lei più congeniale, quello prettamente pop: un pop però sbiadito, scolorito, che gira su se stesso senza mai trovare il giusto piglio.

Sembrano ormai lontanissimi i tempi dell’iconica “I Kiss the girl“, per non parlare delle potentissime “Teenage Dream“, “Roar” e “Unconditionally“: in questo episodio infarti la produzione è davvero troppo blanda e approssimativa, l’atmosfera e il mood inoltre non rendono giustizia a un brano che dovrebbe rappresentare la forza, il coraggio, l’emozione di uscire da un periodo difficile. Che fine ha fatto l’estro di Katy Perry? Torneranno i banger? Lo scopriremo nel corso del tempo.
